Information about the "Summer Purification Ceremony" at Yukura Shrine
◎Date and time: June 30, 2020, 3:00 p.m. (in front of the sacred tree in the precincts)
◎Location: Yukura Shrine grounds (approach to the shrine)
*Everyone is welcome to attend, so please come and pay your respects.
The "Great Purification" is a Shinto ritual that has been passed down in Japan since ancient times. It is a ceremony to cleanse away sins and impurities that have been committed unknowingly in daily life, and it is performed at the Imperial Palace and at shrines throughout the country.
In particular, the "Summer Purification Ceremony" in June involves the custom of passing through a "Chino-wa" (a ring made of reeds) while praying to withstand the summer heat and be protected from disease (epidemics) and disasters.
In addition, we respectfully invite you to transfer the sins and impurities accumulated over the past six months onto a paper effigy (doll) and purify yourself, so that you may spend the summer in a refreshed and healthy state of mind and body.
*For those unable to attend on the day, paper effigies (dolls) are available at the shrine office. Please place one effigy in the effigy collection box along with a donation of 100 yen or more.
